Singleton Dressage Club

Singleton Dressage Club hosts 4 Official and 1 unofficial Dressage Competitions per year at Singleton Showground. The Official competitions attract to Singleton approximately 100 competitors, their assorted strappers, and their family and friends, as well as our esteemed judges for the day. Some of these people may travel quite a distance sometimes arriving the day prior to the competition.

The club has a small but innovative committee who are keen to see the club thrive. The Singleton Dressage Club committee has been instrumental in the introduction of a number of new ideas to the equestrian world in the Hunter.

1.      Pony Dressage Classes. Previously ponies had to compete against horses and were at a distinct disadvantage due to their size and subsequent shorter stride.

2.      Sponsorship for up and coming local judges to offset the costs incurred for their training and grading.

All of the current Singleton Dressage Competitions boast a friendly country atmosphere in a safe and picturesque setting and have received compliments from many of Australia’s international riders and judges. The competition caters for adult and junior riders, from our Preparatory tests for the beginner horse or rider up to the Federal Equestrian International tests, which many of our National and Olympic riders utilise in their quest for Australian team representation.

Competitors strive for that picture of harmony where horse and rider appear to move as one through a series of intricate movements in perfect unison.  The same people who judge at the Olympic and World Equestrian Games often judge our competitors in Official Classes at Singleton.  Champion and Reserve Champion Prizes of the Day are awarded and ribbons and trophies are awarded to 6th place in all tests. Our Annual Championships are usually held in November each year.

During the year an associate day is held which allow riders to practice without the intense pressure of an Official competition and provide riders with a great opportunity to meet other horse people and enjoy this great sport. Singleton Showground provides the perfect starting ground for anyone interested in the sport of dressage to compete in a safe and friendly environment.
